Jesus Who Calms the Winds of Change

With each day bringing change and uncertainty… Jesus is our staying presence in the midst of the winds of change.
Matthew 8:23, “And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. 24 And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. 25 And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” 26 And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?”
We can certainly relate to the disciples, after seeing Jesus healing diseases gets into the boat and while the disciples are talking and just hanging out storm comes upon them and it is life threatening.  Panic breaks out realizing that this could be it!  In the meantime, Jesus is sleeping peacefully!  Well you now the story, the disciples ask Jesus to do something,
Question, what does Jesus ask them before He calms the Storm?   “Why are you afraid? They struggled to believe Jesus would see them through the storm.
The Take Away at this point is in form of a question, when we find ourselves in lives winds of difficult change like the coronavirus threat, how do we respond with faith?
Three encouraging truths from Jesus to us…
  1. Storms don’t bother Jesus.  Jesus can overcome every Storm.
We perhaps are not able to change our current situation, but we can look to Jesus who is faithful and knows our fears, worries, burdens, or the lack of peace we may experiencing at this time.
  2. Jesus is our peacemaker.
Jesus with bring the peace, that surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds” Philippians 4:7
  3. Jesus is always in the midst of our storms.
Our human nature often focuses in on fear of the unknown, and we want to know the future we can’t control.  We have a God who bigger than any circumstance.  Jesus knows your future and He is always in the midst of our winds of change.  Jesus is calling us to live by faith, not by sight.
Jesus in walking right alongside you.  Hebrews 4:16, “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
