Applications from Sermons Preached at New Life Fellowship in John Chapter 13-14

5/15/2023

John 13:1-17 “That Humble Service for Those Whom Jesus Loved”
  • Have you seen His love in humble service for you as one so undeserving & unworthy of such love & sacrificial service?   Jesus died for our sins as the only Savior
  • How are you as a disciple of Jesus present active following His example in His love with humble service for others?   Jesus Is Both Lord and Teacher who Is Our Savior
  • The love of Jesus, which you and I did not deserve, should be a reality in my life and your life as disciples of Jesus
  • Humble service by Jesus, which you and I are so unworthy, should be a reality in my life and your life as disciples of Jesus
  • These words by Jesus, which you and I have heard, should be a reality in my life and your life as disciples of Jesus
John 13:18-30  Sober Warning and Solemn Ending
  • Indeed there is the exposing of who we actually are because of Who Jesus really is
  • Jesus Knows . . . Jesus Identifies
  • There are consequences of choices with Who Jesus Is
  • Jesus knows all about you and those around you understanding what is going to happen no matter how much manipulating and maneuvering according to the ways of men
  • Consider how Judas betrayed the love of Jesus in his manipulating and maneuvering without taking direction from the words of Jesus
  • Are you one who claims to be a disciple of Jesus desiring to be close to Him, hearing His words and embracing His love? “one whom Jesus loved”

John 13:31-38 Both The Reality and Necessity . . .
  • Again the Lord Jesus promises and predicts showing that He understands all the things that are going to happen and therefore we look to Him
  • Glorifying Jesus because of Who He Is and What He has Done
  • Obeying Jesus because of How He has loved us and Who We Are
  • Being a disciple of Jesus showing the love of Jesus for His disciples as those who know the love of Jesus as His disciple
  • Christian standard according to the words of Jesus for His disciples

John 14:1-6   LOVE . . . FAITH . . . HOPE . . .
  • The need for the words of Jesus in our lives as His disciples because of His counsel and His comfort here---greater measure with increased emotions, struggles, and troubles cf. Philippians 4:6-7
  • Obedience to the Words of Jesus in the Present
  • Confidence in the Promises of Jesus for the Future
  • These matters brought to us by Jesus Himself at this time placing great importance being foremost among His many words in these chapters

John 14:6  COMMUNION “Believe Jesus Alone Is The Way To Heaven”
Where are you going in this life? Which way are you going? Who is it that you are following? Can you go in your own direction and be going where Jesus is the way? How it is you can being going in the wrong direction in your life and arrive at the right destination? Do you have Jesus? Have you received Him? Will you believe Him? Is He the way you are going? Is He the One you are following? Who will you tell about Jesus this week? Who will hear from you these words by Jesus about Him being the way?

John 20:1-31   RESURRECTION SUNDAY
  • The resurrection of Jesus from the dead means He lives & therefore intercedes for us-Romans 5:10; 6:4; Ephesians 1:19-20;Hebrews 7:25
  • The resurrection of Jesus is a historical fact & biblical truth which intersects in the lives of real people in real situations--Help, Hope, Home
  • The resurrection of Jesus means each of us should live as those believing Jesus has risen from the dead “my Lord and My God”
  • The resurrection of Jesus means that we announce to others the Gospel message believing Jesus has risen from the dead     Are you believing?

John 14:7-15  Truths given to His disciples by Jesus Himself
                 Knowing Him . . . Believing Him . . . Praying to Him . . . Loving Him
  • The truth about Jesus is our dependence upon Him for having personal knowledge of God and believing the personal work of God
  • Being those who are asking and praying with understanding
  • May each of us be praying about the greater things promised by Jesus
  • May we seek to be His disciples going forth with the Gospel proclaiming Jesus is God through our teaching His words and His works
  • These great truths from our Savior encourage our hearts as His disciples in these days as we seek to serve Him through the ministry He has called us in  our lives and as His people here at New Life Fellowship

John 14:16-24    In His Words The Promises . . .
How do you see the help of the Holy Spirit in your life? How do you see His presence in your life? What do the words of Jesus reveal about His relationship with you? How do the words of Jesus direct your relationship with Him? Which one of His promises do you need to grab onto today with both hands because of what is needed in your life? What does Jesus see in you from His words and what has He revealed about you in these words for His disciples? Looking to That Day That God will dwell Revelation 21:3

John 14:25-31   The Promises of His Words . . . For His Disciples
  • Consider all that Jesus did for you as He died for your sins and all that Jesus does for you because He lives as your resurrected Savior
  • With Jesus we are promised What He will do because of what will be happening so that His ministry would continue through us as His disciples
  • Have confidence in Jesus and find assurance in His words in whatever you are going through and no matter what is happening to you
  • Trust in Jesus and Believe in His words for what will be happening
